Ajami Programming Script (APS) is a computer programming language that we developed and are still developing at Karatoo, the language has Hausa based commands and keywords as opposed to conventional programming languages which are English based.
The Ajami Programming Script (APS) can be used to introduce non-English speaking participants to the world of computer programming purely in Hausa, their native language.
Imagine a non-English speaking person in Katagum developing a hit app sold on Google Play App Store completely in Hausa. Of course it is possible, the Chinese do things in their language and it did not hinder them one bit, in fact we think it is one of the reason they are where they are now. We believe learning things in your native cuts the learning curve.
Language is a barrier; we believe having a programming language that introduces computer programming using Hausa will enable non-English speakers in the North to widen their horizon, observe the table below in terms of the global trend in Information and Communication Technology.
|Timeline||What happens in the West||What happens in Nigeria||What we envisage|

|6 – 12 years old||Knows English…continues programming in more computer languages||6 years learning English at the primary level||Knows Hausa…continues programming in more computer languages|
|12 – 18 years old||Knows English becomes proficient in several computer programming languages||6 years learning more English at the secondary level||Knows Hausa becomes proficient in several computer programming language|
|18 – 23 years old||Invents or develops a multi-billion dollar software||5 years learning computer science and programming||Invents or develops a multi-billion dollar software|
|23 – 40 years old||Heads a multi-billion dollar ICT company||Learning real software development by tutorials, blogs and pdfs||Heads a multi-billion dollar ICT company|
|40 years old onwards||Retires and goes into philanthropy and meeting world leaders||?????????????????????????||Retires and goes into philanthropy and meeting world leaders|
Currently we are implementing the idea by teaching a few kids and grown ups in our neighbourhoods how to program simple tasks, one of them is teaching an Almajiri to write a short program to:
1. Take two numbers.
2. Perform basic arithmetic operations i.e. addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
3. Print out the result on the computer monitor.
